Step into history! The Dennis House ca.1740 (also documented as the William Grafton House) is one of the important early houses on The Point and has not been offered for sale in more than a century. This substantial gambrel-roofed Colonial has undergone numerous renovations and architectural changes over the generations, its most significant alteration in 1876 when the young Charles Follen McKim (later founder of McKim, Mead & White and one of the defining American architects of his generation) was engaged to remodel some of the interior. St. John the Evangelist Church acquired the Dennis House in 1922 for use as its rectory and for over a century, the house has remained part of the larger St. John's campus where the church bells continue to mark the hours. This significant house features three stories with 4500 square feet of living space, beautiful water views, five-six bedrooms, six bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, six fireplaces, original wide-plank floors, and a private side yard. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to preserve an important Newport property, live within its history, and become the next steward of a house that has stood through nearly three hundred years of change. The property is subject to final zoning approval for a separate lot (taxes, lot numbers, assessment to be determined.)
